Meet the Laser Safety Team

Four physicians staff the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Dr. Ke He is the responsible physician for this site and manages its laser and energy-device injury content; the Center Director guarantees the hospital response behind her, and the surgical and dermatologic members of the team carry the cases in which a burn cannot be answered by wound care alone.

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Laser and energy device safety · burn depth assessment · pigment and scar outcomes

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service — and she is the lead physician of this site. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

On this site her part is the assessment that decides depth. She reads the skin at the bedside through colour, sensation and how the surface behaves, records where the injury sits and how large it is, and decides from that whether it is managed in the clinic with dressings and review or referred to a burns service. She treats the immediate phase and the healing phase as two different problems, and she refuses to begin pigment or scar treatment while the skin is still closing, because adding inflammation to skin that is already inflamed makes the outcome worse rather than better. Where pigment has been lost, she says plainly that recovery cannot be assumed, and she documents what the skin looked like at each stage so that the record follows the patient.

Clinical focus

  • Assessment of burn depth after a laser or energy-based treatment
  • Recognition of the injuries that need a burns service rather than a clinic review
  • Management of pigment change after burn injury, including loss of pigment
  • Timing of scar treatment against scar maturation, and keeping movement across a joint
  • Review of what a device treatment did when it has produced an injury

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Laser Medicine Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Facial Rejuvenation Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Plastic Surgery Quality Control Center
  • Published 5 papers, holds 5 national patents, and introduced 2 new clinical techniques

Depth is decided early, and it decides everything

A burn that is superficial reddens and settles; the same skin a layer deeper heals slowly, scars and can lose pigment permanently. Because that judgement is made at the bedside and changes what happens next, a burn is assessed early rather than watched for a few days — and it is the reason this site puts prevention and depth above every corrective option it describes.

Not sure whether your skin is reacting or injured?

Contact the team rather than waiting to see how it looks tomorrow. This site cannot assess depth, and the findings that need emergency care — blistering, white or blackened skin, loss of sensation, pain that keeps worsening — are not ones to watch for another day.
